Bright Futures Consultancy

Gemma Cheney is a Clinical Psychologist specialising in working with Children, Young People and Families. She is currently working for the NHS and within a social care setting in West London where she leads and works together with a small team supporting young people and carers who typically present with complex, multifaceted emotional needs and who are Looked After. Prior to this role, she held a post as Clinical Psychologist at a national charity providing holistic support to vulnerable inner-city children, and a post at a highly regarded Children's Hospital providing psychometric assessment.

She provides a flexible, individualised approach to assessment and understanding of a wide range of emotional, social and behavioural difficulties.  These include mood and anxiety problems, experience of trauma, bereavement and loss, low self esteem, self harming and self destructive behaviours, relationship challenges including insecurity in attachment and other related issues.

Gemma is able to offer interventions that are sensitive and tailored to the needs of each individual or family and has a high level of proficiency in the delivery of effective and evidence based interventions including cognitive behavioural therapy, dyadic developmental practice and systemic and narrative therapy.  Her currently developing expertise lies in adapting formal psychotherapeutic interventions for use within 'hard to reach' populations. She works directly with families as well as within schools, residential homes and various other community settings. Gemma is also available for supervision, teaching and training.
